An interior where ecology and luxury meet 

A 100% electric car is greener by definition, but Volvo takes green thinking a step further. Being eco-friendly in 2023 means abolishing the use of leather and replacing it with other materials. It is creating a new kind of luxurious interior with a combination of:

• Plastic from recycled bottles 
• Recycled corks 

• Optional naturally renewable wool fibres 

Sustainable materials are therefore at the heart of the design of this new vehicle. The interior evokes nature in many ways, particularly through a large tinted panoramic roof that illuminates the interior. The Fjord Blue colour used in the interior is also reminiscent of Scandinavian landscapes.

Engine that goes the extra mile 

The new electric Volvo is equipped with not one, but two electric motors powered by a 78 kWh battery. The presence of two engines in electric vehicles means, on the one hand, that they are equipped with all-wheel drive. 

On the other hand, it also implies that the forces of the engines add up to generate even more power and speed. In fact, the new Volvo C40 has 404 horsepower and 486 lb-ft of torque! With this powerful engine, the little SUV can go from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. 

Aaron Gold, reporter at MotorTrend gives his impressions of the driving experience after his first test drive: 

“The accelerator pedal setup is masterful: while many 400-horsepower cars are twitchy and impatient, the C40 allows you to build power smoothly and gradually.” 

The vehicle’s electric range is up to 364 km on a single charge. When you need to charge it quickly, the 150 kW fast-charging stations allow it to recover 10 to 80 percent of its charge in just 33 minutes, or 68 minutes with a 50 kW station.

Uncompromised cargo volume and towing 

The Volvo C40’s chassis and the two powerful engines allow it to tow loads of up to 1,800 kg (3,968 lbs). If you’re planning to take your electric car on an outdoor trip, don’t worry: it’s perfectly capable of carrying a variety of recreational vehicles! 

The SUV may be compact, but it offers generous cargo capacity: its trunk can hold 489 litres of cargo and the seats fold down to free up a total volume of 1,208 litres. 

But that’s not all: since the Volvo C40 Electric has no engine under the hood, it has what is called a frunk. It is a front cargo space inside the hood that’s handy for storing smaller items. 

There are also several storage spaces in the cabin, especially inside the doors, where you can easily slip in a laptop computer. 

Modern exterior design 

On the outside, the 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge has features similar to the XC40, with which it shares its platform, but is well-known by a receding roofline, like a coupé. It features: 

• A contrasting black roof 
• 20-inch 5-spoke diamond-cut wheels 
• A grille in the same colour as the body
